“You can buy fashion, but you must create style.” This quote is as true today as ever. In an era of “fast fashion,” where new looks are being shown in stores every few weeks and are inexpensive enough for just about anyone to purchase, how do you stand out in the crowd? Jewelry, of course! Accessories are the ultimate way to make a look your own.
Take this great dress from Zara. A beautiful coppery fall color, the dress hits on the big trend towards more structure that is happening right now. Mimicking the classic lines of a trench coat, it’s effortlessly chic and works on a variety of body types. So how can you make the look feel distinctly yours? I decided to come up with my own choices and then ask around for some other expert opinions.
My Choice: The dress is monochromatic, but I wanted to play with texture rather than color when it comes to the jewelry. A stack of silver bracelets in different geometric shapes really brings drama and contrast to the dress (the sleeves of which leave plenty of room for layering). The only stone I chose to add is Bronzite – rather than add another color to the look, I wanted to draw attention to the silver designs. The neckline of the dress is one that is quite complicated, so I skipped a necklace and instead opted for a simple pair of earrings that complemented the bracelets.
Here’s what staff from our stores around the country chose to pair with the same dress:
Faneuil Hall in Boston: The lovely ladies at Faneuil Hall chose to keep with the fall color palette by accessorizing with a warm-toned belt, earrings, and bracelet, all featuring chain-style textures that are very popular this season. Another bonus: “The look is unique and economical because the pieces are made of brass!”
New Orleans: The folks down in the Big Easy kept their choices classic, with a southern twist. “Of course southern girls love Pearls! We've chosen a classic trio in white Pearl to accompany the gorgeous copper color of the dress.” Pearls are also a choice that can be worn both day and evening.
Water Tower Place in Chicago: Our Second City location went eclectic with its choices. A pair of cattle horn earring brings a punch of bright color, while a bracelet and rings play with warm tones and whimsical designs. “The overall look is one that is effortlessly fun, playful and chic.”
Denver: Our staff in Denver chose pieces made from materials as varied as Sterling Silver, Aluminum, and Antique Buttons. The takeaway here is cool, crisp white metals. “I like how each piece complements the other and stands out against the color of the dress.”
Baton Rouge: The team in Baton Rouge put together coordinating pieces from Local Charm’s Yan Van collection featuring unusual materials and textures: rubber, copper, Amethyst, and silver. The look complements (especially the copper metal featured in each piece) but also allows the jewelry to stand out from the dress. “Color me beautiful, not dull and lifeless!”
