Ultra Violet: Pantone’s 2018 Color of the Year

Happy 2018, Local Charmers! If you’re anything like me, you love a fresh start. That’s why I love Pantone’s Color of the Year – it’s a fun and simple way to revitalize your wardrobe. Rather than chasing after every trend this year, you can use the Pantone Color of the Year to make just a few key purchases that will give every item in your wardrobe an instant update.

Like most Color of the Year choices, this year’s shade, Ultra Violet, is a bold statement. It’s only natural – who wants to live in a world where the Color of the Year is beige? The deep blue-purple Ultra Violet is definitely not for the faint of heart. In fact, Pantone calls Ultra Violet, “complex and contemplative . . . suggest(ing) the mysteries of the cosmos, the intrigue of what lies ahead, and the discoveries beyond where we are now.” That’s a color that has a lot to say!

While I think investing in a new cocktail dress in Ultra Violet would be a lot of fun, the color is distinctive enough that just adding an accessory or two your favorite duds will do the trick for most outfits. I’m thinking of swapping out my tartan plaid winter scarf for something in Ultra Violet – I think it will look amazing paired with my camel coat. I’m also loving all the trend forecasting that shows berets making a big comeback. Who wouldn’t love topping off a cute spring look with an Ultra Violet beret? By far the easiest way to sneak in a little bit of Ultra Violet, though, would be to add a piece or two of dark purple Amethyst to my jewelry box.

Amethyst is a popular and beautiful stone (it’s actually one of our best sellers here at Local Charm!) so grabbing a few pieces for a pop of Ultra Violet is a good investment, as you’ll continue to wear them long after they announce the 2019 Color of the Year. A great pair of long, dangly earrings and a cocktail ring would be the perfect accent to my favorite weekend look of a white silk blouse paired with easy fitting jeans and loafers. I might even throw on an Ultra Violet belt if I want an extra bit of interest.

Will you be wearing Ultra Violet this year? How will you work it into your wardrobe? Will you go all out and buy several new garments, or just an accessory or two?
